Gabriele Proy (Austria)
Vienna-born Gabriele Proy is one of Austria’s best-known contemporary composers. From 2001 until 2013 she was President of the European Forum Klanglandschaft.
In addition to her many other awards and distinctions she received the Austrian commission in composition for the EU-Japan Year 2005, the Austria-Japan Year 2009, for the European Capital of Culture Marseille-Provence 2013 and „150 years anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Austria 2019.
In 2013, she was commissioned by the City of Leipzig to compose a choral work for the concert “Eine europäische Friedensmusik” to be held as part of the Leipzig 1813-1913-2013 commemorations of the two hundredth anniversary of the Battle of Leipzig. In the same year, she received the Music Award of the City of Vienna, the city’s highest honour for music.
Her award-winning compositions for choir, orchestra and chamber orchestra have been performed by distinguished orchestras, conductors and soloists, including the Munich Philharmonic Choir, the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Wiener Concert-Verein Orchestra, the Wiener Symphoniker, Andreas Herrmann, Gottfried Rabl, Philippe Entremont, Christian Schulz, Günter Haumer, Ulrike Anton, Lucia Hall, Armin Egger, Christina Schorn, Elena Denisova, Veronika Trisko and Russell Ryan.
Her works have been performed to great acclaim in Europe, Turkey, Iran, Japan, Australia, Canada, South America and the USA.
