Chamber music Compositions by Gabriele Proy (Austria)
Largo – Adagio – Largo – Moderato – Lento
In memory of the victims of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan in 2011.
“The question lingers in the expanse of the landscape. Quakes, walls of water, waves like mountains, mud. Wanting to stop the sudden, wanting to forget the sudden, needing understand too suddenly. Everything is too sudden. Learning to go, learning to understand in the midst of an inexorable fate. In between. The sea reflects turquoise.
The distant sound of the flutes is reminiscent of the sound of the shakuhachi, the crescendo of the guitar arpeggios of the powerful sounds of the Shamisen in the North of Japan.”
Gabriele Proy wrote the duo “Türkis” for flute and guitar in memory of those who died in the Tohoku earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan in March 2011. The work, for which Gabriela Proy received the Composition Prize 2011 from the Austrian Ministry for Education, Art and Culture, was written at the invitation of the Österreichische Gesellschaft für zeitgenössische Musik.
“Türkis” is dedicated to the flautist Ulrike Anton and the guitarist Armin Egger and had its premiere on 30 May 2012 when it was performed by Ulrike Anton and Armin Egger at the chamber concert of the Österreichische Gesellschaft für zeitgenössische Musik (Austrian Society for Contemporary Music) in the Salvatorsaal in Vienna, Austria.
The composition “Türkis” by Gabriele Proy was performed for the first time in Japan on 15 December 2015 at the distinguished Tokyo Geijutsu Daigaku (University of the Arts in Tokyo) by Ulrike Anton and Armin Egger.
