Gabriele Proy (Austria, Europe)

Gabriele Proy is one of Austria’s most distinguished contemporary composers, recognized for her unique "listening art" (Hörkunst) that bridges traditional forms with modern sound research. Her creative work is deeply inspired by nature, serving as the foundation for her orchestral, vocal, and soundscape compositions.

Since 2011, she has served as a Professor of Composition at IES Abroad Vienna. Her leadership in the field of composition is further highlighted by her tenure as President of the European Forum Klanglandschaft from 2001 to 2013. Her music is performed globally in renowned venues such as the Vienna Musikverein, Konzerthaus Berlin, Wigmore Hall, Beijing Concert Hall, Tokyo Kioi Hall, and the Esplanade Theatres on the Bay by world-class ensembles like the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and members of the Vienna Philharmonic.

Proy has received prestigious commissions for major historical milestones, including the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Austria and the 150th anniversary of Austria-Japan diplomatic relations.

Her international impact is honored by numerous awards, including the Prize of the City of Vienna, the Culture Prize of the Province of Lower Austria and the professional title of Professor, conferred by the Austrian Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen at the Hofburg in 2025.
